Accountability and scrutiny: The issues for local government in a changing political environment

New research complied by CfGS for APSE exploring the effectiveness of scrutiny.

Good governance is critical to public trust in decision-making. In times of uncertainty, it is important that decisions are made in a way that is transparent and holds to account those responsible for implementation. Worryingly, the report shows that scrutiny is perceived as weak and ineffective and makes suggestions for how scrutiny might be improved in the future.
