Letter to Clive Betts MP on the statutory scrutiny guidance

In May 2019, Clive Betts MP (Chair of the Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee) wrote to CfGS to ask for our thoughts on the recently-published statutory guidance. The guidance was produced in part in response to the Committee’s inquiry into overview and scrutiny in local government, which reported in December 2017.

This letter is our response to his questions. It also provides a more general update on action taken on the Committee’s recommendations eighteen months after they were made.
