Introduction to scrutiny

June 11, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

£195
You have successfully landed a scrutiny role but what really are your responsibilities?

What makes a good scrutineer and how will you know if you are making a difference? How are you able to maintain positive working relationships to influence policy development? How do members get hold of the information they need in order to be effective? CfGS’s Introduction to scrutiny training event could be just the thing you need.

This one day training session, aimed at new members and officers, provides delegates with an overview of the skills and knowledge needed to be an effective scrutineer. Covering everything from the legislation that governs scrutiny, work planning, basic questioning and interrogation, building relationships and community engagement. Building on the core principle of fostering a culture of openness and transparency the day will help delegates to understand the best way of managing relationships with other councillors and officers to ensure scrutiny is seen as an important part of local democracy and integral to an the authority’s governance arrangements.

Places cost £195 + VAT per person for Local Authority delegates and £225 + VAT per person for commercial sector delegates.
