The NHS and the Centre for Governance and Scrutiny (CfGS) have come together to deliver a ½ day workshop to support you to improve your understanding of the NHS and local government in the context of the NHS Long Term Plan. The workshop is designed as a ‘go to’ event for those working on the day-to-day delivery of STPs and ICSs in both the NHS and local government.

The ambitions of the NHS Long Term Plan will be delivered through STPs and ICSs, but partnerships between the NHS and local government are vital to success. Colleagues working across the NHS and local government have told us that they would like to better understand the different political dynamics, structures and cultures of local government and the NHS and especially how council health scrutiny functions can best engage with the strategic, operational and outcome measurement issues.

The workshop aims to: 

• improve partnership work and well-informed dialogue between health and local government in STPs/ICSs
• ensure that NHS managers, clinicians and non-executive members of governing bodies, particularly those involved in major change programmes, have the knowledge and skills to engage effectively with local government partners, especially scrutiny
• increase knowledge of local government councillors about the NHS Long Term Plan and drivers of change

The workshop will be facilitated by senior NHS and local government experts. The workshop will generate shared conversations, joint learning, personal reflection and action planning. A detailed programme will be available shortly.
