Webinar & workshop: scrutinising climate action

September 18, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 3:20 pm

This is a free online webinar and workshop organised by the Centre for Governance and Scrutiny and the Local Government Association.

It is directed at scrutiny members, scrutiny officers, climate change/environment portfolio holders and council leaders.

Summary

The pandemic has presented opportunities to advance some climate change goals. What steps could local scrutineers (councillors sitting on scrutiny committees and the officers who support them) take to ensure the short, medium and longer term responses to the pandemic correlate with their council’s climate action plans?

Drawing on our upcoming publication ‘10 questions to ask if you are scrutinising climate change’, this event will outline a practical approach for scrutineers to understand and seek oversight on climate action in their localities. It is designed to explore questioning, identify key stakeholders, plan effective scrutiny work and consider the impacts that scrutiny can expect to deliver on this issue.

The two sessions will involve presentations from guest speakers, small group discussions for attendees as well as panel Q&As.
