In response to your feedback we are replicating our popular London STP scrutiny event held in September in the North of England and is being run in partnership with Leeds City Council.

How much does your scrutiny committee understand about the new Sustainability and Transformation Plans (STPs)? How will your scrutiny committee be involved in their delivery?

Every health and care system in England has produced the first draft of their multi-year Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP). They show how local services will evolve and become sustainable over the next five years – ultimately delivering the Five Year Forward View vision of better health, better patient care and improved NHS efficiency.

Governance, scrutiny and public voice are vital components of the health and social care system. There is a clear role for elected politicians particularly scrutiny councillors to ensure that these plans are robust, sustainable and transformational.  To do this councillors and officers will need to have a clear understanding of the purpose of the plans, how they are being developed, the process for approval and delivery.

At our event, we will explore the role of politicians, scrutiny and good governance of STPs. You will hear from experts from national organisations and leading thinkers. There will be practical opportunities to share your experiences and learning to date.
