Scrutiny’s purpose is to add value to council decision-making. Key to this are two elements:
Ensuring impact from scrutiny work hinges on recommendations which are accepted by the executive, and which go on to be implemented. This involves liaison and dialogue over work being carried out, and recommendations being prepared.
This free online webinar is about the power that scrutiny committees have to make recommendations to the council’s executive, and to other organisations. It explores why making effective recommendations is critical to good scrutiny, and how scrutiny practitioners can align with executive decision-making to do this.
It will give you the chance to explore the basic general principles in crafting effective recommendations and working with the executive for maximum impact. We’ll also provide the opportunity to share experiences from your own council in a supportive environment.
Space is limited; the session will take place via Zoom and is open to all councillors. We advise signing up immediately to avoid disappointment.
