Sam Corcoran is a chartered accountant and fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation. He was Leader of Cheshire East Council from 2019-2024 during which time the council has set out its aims of being Open, Fair and Green – moving to a committee system of governance, tackling health inequalities, committing to being carbon neutral and getting 54% of the way there by 2024. Sam also co-chaired the 2-year project of the Cheshire & Warrington Sustainable & Inclusive Growth Commission.
From 1993-1996 Sam worked in Kenya with the Volunteer Missionary Movement, teaching in a secondary school and working with aid agencies on accounting systems.
Sam was first elected onto Cheshire East Council in May 2011 and served for many years on its Audit & Governance Committee. He is also a director of Achilles Accountancy Ltd, Helen Corcoran Ltd, Love Music Trust. He has also served as the Labour Vice Chair of the County Councils Network.
