Joining up scrutiny at local authority and combined authority level to review economic development

One of the most significant challenges – and opportunities – presented by English devolution is ensuring meaningful scrutiny of big-picture, long-term priorities such as economic development, regeneration, and growth. Combined Authorities (CAs), both existing and emerging, are taking the lead in these areas. But their decisions and strategies will directly affect the ambitions and responsibilities of individual local authorities.

The Centre for Governance and Scrutiny is currently examining how scrutiny at the CA and local authority (LA) level can better align to deliver seamless oversight and enable robust, constructive challenge – particularly in relation to Mayoral powers and plans.

This session offers a space for scrutineers to reflect, share experiences, and begin shaping a collaborative approach to oversight. Join us to explore the issues, identify what’s needed, and start building a future-facing model of connected scrutiny.

Join us at this free online event to explore the challenge, talk about your experiences and expectations, and set out a plan of action for the future.
